美国的海啸预警系统(TsunamiWarningSystem)发布了关于潜在海啸威胁的预警，预警涵盖厄瓜多尔、尼加拉瓜、巴拿马、危地马拉、洪都拉斯、厄瓜多尔和哥斯达黎加。

MrPe?aNietosaidthatthequakehadbeen“intense,prolongedandverystrong”,andnoted42aftershockshadbeenregisteredandmorewerelikely.

培尼亚?涅托表示此次地震“很剧烈、时间长、强度大”，并指出已记录了42次余震，而且很可能还有余震。

“Thisisthestrongestearthquakewehaveregisteredinatleastthelastyears,”thepresidentsaidinanmessagefromtheNationalDisasaterPreventionCentre.Heconfirmedfivepeoplehadbeenreporteddeadbutsaiditwastooearlytoquantifydamage.

“这是我们记录的至少百年来的最强烈地震，”这位总统在墨西哥国家防灾中心(NationalDisasaterPreventionCentre)发表讲话称。他证实据报已有5人遇难，但他表示现在量化损失还为时太早。
